    I tried to take a crack at this puzzle, since I like Yajlin, but I must admit that I couldn’t figure out the rules. I don’t quite get what precisely the arrow value means in these puzzles. The guide says they are “loop segments,” but I don’t get what that means.

    Basically, they are the unit segments from cell center to cell center. A loop segment between two squares would count as a 1 for the purposes of an arrow. You can also think of it as how many cell borders are crossed by the loop in the direction of the arrow, seeing all the way to the edge of the grid.
