My first expert time … figured out the rough regions first and then tweaked …

Yay, faster than yesterday. Using colors was really helpful here. Maybe you should add “Surface” to the Penpa Lite options for the rest of the week 😀

  • Menderbug says:

First Master time on one of these. 🙂 Shading with colours was pretty essential for this one. Since that’s also what you tend to do in most if not all of the solution videos, you could maybe enable Surface via the tab menu by default?

This is a very good suggestion and one that after I filmed the first three videos this week have decided to do for all Araf (not necessarily for all Fillomino/Pentominous yet but also in mind for those). I just haven’t had time to make the updates to Penpa or to film the last three+ videos for the week so this will be addressed in the future.

I will also ask our Penpa support team if a feature like “check a solution based on orthogonal non-similar colors implying edges” can also be implemented and that needs code updates, not just things I can handle myself quickly at the level of the web links.

3:27 took a solid min to figure out the approximate path of everything then just had to join start-end points

You can color or draw the broken lines between numbers while keeping in mind that the solid lines may involve moving/stretching some of the broken lines. Worked for this puzzle, at least.

First time ever getting an expert time, I’m a very slow thinker lol

  • mender says:

Because Araf areas are always contiguous I can’t imagine it would be too hard to implement, given the four colour theorem.

First week ever solving Araf puzzles and have to say, they are lots of fun! The puzzles this week are great so far!

  • Teddy says:

This has a very nice design and a smooth solve. I love it.
