Author/Opus: This is the 287th puzzle from our managing editor Serkan Yürekli.

Rules: Variation of Kakuro. The gray (2×2) cells are to be filled by a single digit which sits in multiple rows and columns. No digits can repeat within an entry, regardless of if it is in a small or large cell.

Difficulty: 4.5 stars

    This one took me a really long time. I am interested in knowing the intended solving path of it to see whether I missed something.

    Finally got through this one after the video posted. Was very frustrating because as I was following the video, it was just over and over “Yeah, I got that. Yeah, I got that. I know, I already did that, *why* can’t I move forward?” Eventually just as a simple elimination, one digit got removed from a box I hadn’t removed that digit from. Stopped the video and looked at it.

    Stupid math errors.

    Turned out there were two clues where I just flat out botched the math, and had the wrong set of numbers I was trying to work with. Definitely makes it harder to solve a puzzle when you’re doing math wrong.
